Doug and Melissa started their enterprise in the stable of Doug's parents' house. Doug's parents were still living in the house so they had to be just not to disturb them. The enterprise came about when Doug was too nervous to ask Melissa to marry him. Instead, he asked her to start a business. Of course, that was twenty years ago and now they have a real office down the road that has isolate ladies and men's bathrooms.

In 1991, their first wooden toy was introduced - the Fuzzy Farm puzzle. Kids across the nation have never known pigs to be fuzzy so it became a hit.
